GREENWOOD, Ind. — The Center Grove Community School Corporation announced the death of longtime teacher and school board member Gary Robinson on Sunday.

According to a press release, Robinson was appointed to the board in November 2022 to complete the term of a member who had resigned. Robinson was then elected to the seat he had previously been subbing in. His term as an elected board member began in January 2023.

“The passing of Gary Robinson is a tremendous blow to our school community,” Center Grove schools Superintendent William Long said via release. “He was such a powerful advocate for our students and community, and a great supporter of public education. I appreciated his friendship, support, wisdom and positive outlook. He was truly a Center Grove icon. His 43 years of teaching experience and love for the Center Grove Community School Corporation made him an excellent board member. We will truly miss him.”

According to CGCSC’s press release, Robinson graduated from Center Grove High School in 1973. He spent 47 years of his life as a public school teacher.

Robinson taught 7th Grade Social Studies at Center Grove Middle School Central for 37 years of his career.

“Gary Robinson cared so deeply for our school district and its people,” Center Grove Board of School Trustees President Amy Counts said via release. “Center Grove will not be the same without him. I and my fellow Board members send love and prayers for healing to his family and friends.”
